One Laptop Per Child - How free software can improve education

One Laptop Per Child is a project that strives to provide children around the world an affordable way of improving their education and, as a result, their society. The method of doing this is by building a laptop specifically designed for the needs of these children. This is not merely a matter of cost, but also about designing hardware suitable for harsh environments and software that will aid education.  The presentation will present the project's background, it's current status and the road ahead. We'll also see what decisions were made to fulfill the ambitious design goals of low price, low power and still lots of functionality. Also, the user interface of the machine, called Sugar, will be demonstrated.  After the presentation there will be a chance to see and use the actual machines.
